How is this a better solution than granting access to the system? I assume you can make the access read-only?

You probably don’t know which directory to grant access to. You probably don’t know whether a program uses Aspell or Hunspell dictionaries. So, you’d need to figure this out for each app and create overrides per app.

The native solution from Flatpak takes care of that automatically for all current and future Flatpak apps.

Yes, you can. However, that just adds more overhead.

Thanks! This has annoyed me for some time. Flatpak needs better documentation for regular users.
